Entry from: Perth, Australia Entry Title: "Goodbye Oz" Entry: "On the morning we were due to get the train we bought the Sunday paper and found our interview was briefly mentioned - see the attached photo. Upon boarding the Indian Pacific later that evening we found lots of complimentary copies, so grabbed a few for our scrapbooks. The article mentioned that the pavement temperature during the pageant was a mind-blowing 54 degrees centrigrade - no wonder the kids got so hot doing their sidewalk chalk ! The train was much better than we had hoped - the carriages were almost like aeroplane interiors - but with three times the leg room and showers. The dreaded day/night seats reclined to almost horizontal and were very comfy. The kids behaved marvellously well, considering they were on the train for 42 hours. Leaving Adelaide it was all wheat belt, but when we awoke the next morning it was red desert. The train doubles as a postal service and so in true Postman Pat style, every now and then we stopped off in the middle of nowhere for the local Mrs Goggins to drive out a few hundred km in her 4x4 to collect the post and drop off her letters.
